LKAB has submitted the building permit documents for the new Bolagshotell to Kiruna Municipality. The new hotel building will replace the former Bolagshotell, which closed down in 2019.

“The old Bolagshotell held a special place in the hearts of many Kiruna residents, who were sad that the old hotel could not be moved. It is particularly gratifying that we’re now approaching the start of construction of a new hotel inspired by the old one,” says Bo Krogvig, SVP Communications at LKAB.

The new Bolagshotell was designed by Tirsén & Aili Arkitekter, drawing inspiration from Gustaf Wickman’s drawings from 1925. This is reflected, among other things, in the exterior of the building, where its characteristic yellow façade, green features and red roof have all been retained. The hotel will be built in a period style, adapted to modern construction standards.

In addition to communal areas and hotel rooms, the building will also house conference rooms, kitchens and dining rooms. On the inside, architectural details from the former Bolagshotell have been incorporated, which combine with LKAB’s art collection to fill the new building with both history and culture.

“Construction is expected to start in 2020, and the new Bolagshotell will be completed by autumn 2022,” says Tjabba Nordanfjäll, Senior Project Manager at LKAB.

The new Bolagshotell will be built at Lotten Erikssons gata 24, at the foot of Luossavaara mountain. This gives the hotel a prominent location among other buildings of cultural historical value. As before, it will be open to LKAB employees and the company’s many guests.
