LKAB’s new corporate hotel complete

Many of us have watched LKAB's new corporate hotel take shape at the foot of the Luossavaara mountain. In January, the project was handed over to the operations organisation. Intensive work is now underway to prepare for occupancy.

“The corporate hotel is fantastic, and it feels like we’re starting a new era. A new, modern building in a new location, but firmly rooted in LKAB’s 130-year history,” says Stefan Hämäläinen, head of the urban transformation and chairman of the project’s steering group.

Since the old corporate hotel had a high cultural and historical value, LKAB’s board decided that the building should be moved to the cultural area near Luossavaara. However, after thorough investigations, it was found that the documentation regarding the building’s construction was inadequate, which meant that there were too many risks associated with moving it. Instead, construction of a new building began, but in the old style.

“It’s been a very exciting project! I’ve had the privilege of being involved from the start, together with our construction contractor Nåiden, so it’s a bit nostalgic to hand over the project. At the risk of being biased, I think the corporate hotel will be a crown jewel, both for the Luossavaara area and for LKAB,” says Sofia Johansson, project manager at LKAB.

“I’m both proud and happy that we at Nåiden were given the trust to build LKAB’s corporate hotel. Even though it’s a new building, you can still feel the weight of history,” says Marcus Olovsson, site manager at Nåiden.

The building resembles the old corporate hotel externally, with a bright yellow facade, mountain paneling, and a red roof. Of course, the interior is modern, with overnight accommodations, a dining room, and conference rooms. The building is located on a hill overlooking the mountains and LKAB’s mine and will be surrounded by gravel paths, lawns, trees, and shrubs. In the immediate vicinity are two other historic buildings, the Engineer’s Villa and the Hjalmar Lundbom Mansion, both of which have been relocated to the area from their previous locations.

“Now we’re preparing for occupancy, with furniture, lamps, TVs for the overnight accommodations, and technology for the conference room. We’re reusing as much as possible, but supplementing with new purchases where necessary. The corporate hotel will primarily be used by the board and executive management with guests,” says Eva Selin, LKAB’s department manager for guest relations and visits.
