The inauguration of the Solar Egg in Kiruna

November 20, 2024

On November 20th, the world-renowned artwork "Solar Egg" by Bigert & Bergström was inaugurated in Kiruna. This unique sauna, created as a symbol of change and sustainability, stands as a testament to the city's transformation. LKAB is proud to have enabled its return to the city, alongside Riksbyggen and the Municipality of Kiruna, where it now graces the landscape overlooking Kiruna's center.

Originally created to highlight the profound changes brought about by the urban transformation in Kiruna, Solar Egg has gained global recognition. Through its innovative design and connection to sustainability, it has toured the world, placing Kiruna on the map as a center for modern art and a hub for discussions on climate and social responsibility.

The inauguration brought together representatives from LKAB, Riksbyggen, Kiruna Municipality, and the artists themselves, along with curious residents, to celebrate the artwork’s return. Visitors had the unique opportunity to experience the sauna’s warmth and reflect on its message.

For LKAB, Solar Egg is more than just an artwork. It represents the company’s commitment to creating an attractive future for Kiruna, even amidst change. By supporting this project, LKAB continues to contribute to Kiruna’s cultural heritage.
